"First International
Congress on Complementary and Alternative Treatments for
Cancer"
Harsh denunciation of conventional cancer treatments
The "First
International Congress on Complementary and Alternative
Treatments for Cancer" , held this
year in the Auditorium of the Palace of Congresses and Exhibitions
in Madrid, ended on 15 May with a standing ovation from an
audience of 1,200 as they bid the speakers farewell. Hundreds
of doctors (among them more than one hundred oncologists),
biologists, chemists, physicists, psychologists, registered
nurses, therapists, engineers specialising in electromedicine,
representatives of numerous laboratories and alternative
health professionals, among other specialists, left the Palace
with a conviction that this congress, the first of its kind
to be held in the world, would mark a watershed in the treatment
of cancer.

A complete success for the
1,200 people present. For the speakers, these were two days
of an intensive exchange of knowledge. For the many patients
who attended, they were days of hope. The three strenuous days - one of seminars and two of presentations - exceeded
everyone's expectations. In contrast to traditional congresses,
the corridors emptied and the auditorium filled as each presentation
began, with the house packed for all fifteen of them. Doctors
accustomed to attending the official congresses sponsored by
big laboratories pointed out that the interest of a congress
is measured by the difference between the number of people attending
the day's first presentation and those still remaining when the
morning or afternoon ends. Whereas at official congresses people
gradually vacate their seats - which are moreover left free -
the speakers at the "First International Congress on
Complementary and Alternative Treatments for Cancer" were,
without exception, able to give details of their work to a full
auditorium. And, throughout the weekend, all were interrupted
several times by prolonged applause. At the close, everyone said
how surprised they were by the high standard and the medical
and scientific level of the presentations, and the human quality
of the speakers.
The congress came to a categorical conclusion: more people are
dying of cancer every year, all over the world, and, despite
the lies periodically disseminated by the great pharmaceutical
industry - with the complicity and ignorance of much of the media
- it is evident that the orthodox treatments for cancer - chemotherapy,
radiotherapy and surgery - have failed completely. All the speakers
were at one in denouncing this situation. For all of them, the
time has therefore come for a radical change of direction in
the treatment of this illness, because the current testing system,
which is incapable of taking account of the diversity of circumstances
of each patient and which is in many cases manipulated, cannot
continue to be the sole basis for establishing treatments to
combat cancer.
The devastating report that
opened the congress demonstrated this beyond all doubt. The
data, considered in their entirety, offer an image very different
from the one that some of the domesticated media would like
to impose on us, which shows only part of reality - always
the same part, curiously enough - the one that promotes the
commercial interests of big industry. In addition, the blatant
lies of those who attempt to ridicule alternative treatments
were unmasked: it was demonstrated scientifically during this
congress that, in every case discussed, they are not only significantly
more effective than chemotherapy and radiotherapy, they are also
innocuous, i.e. lacking in secondary effects. And, in many cases,
this has been demonstrated with the very "weapons" of
the orthodox oncologists: by means of documented clinical tests
that cannot be refuted.
TWO DAYS OF INTENSE INTERCHANGES
It is worth mentioning that from the start of the congress many
patients and their relatives approached members of the organization
in search of solutions to their individual cases. All of them
were invited to wait until the end, so that, once informed, they
could decide for themselves between the various options made
accessible to them.
The congress began with an extremely severe analysis of the
current situation with cancer, based on figures showing the development
of the illness and the global failure of treatments, contrasted
with the opinions of important researchers who have been systematically
ignored by the most important media. The starting point was provided
by Mariano Barbacid, director of the National
Centre for Oncological Research (CNIO ) and, paradoxically,
one of the most critical voices of the current system of cancer
treatment. A year and a half ago, at the inauguration of the
new office he directs, he stated, " Fifty per cent of
Spaniards will suffer from cancer at some time in their lives,
and half of those will die ".
In actual fact, almost 100,000 persons a year are dying of cancer
in Spain at the present time, and this is only in the hospitals,
without counting those who are sent home to die. The chilling
figures given during the opening presentation clearly leave no
room for doubt about the efficacy of current treatments. The
death rate per hundred thousand inhabitants in this country has
risen 15% in ten years. Not only is it not falling, it is rising,
though attempts are made to conceal that fact.
Dieter Hoelzel, of the Munich University
Clinical Centre, concluded only a few weeks ago that in
the last 25 years there had been no progress in survival from
metastatic colon, breast, lung and prostate cancer, the major
killers causing 80% of deaths from this illness in the advanced
industrial countries. Survival rates have not improved over
the past decades. Today's patients die as rapidly from cancer
as did those of 25 years ago. In spite of which, the
profits of the great pharmaceutical industry continue to rise
at a time when public health systems are collapsing. It's hardly
surprising that some people don't mind speaking plainly. James
Watson, Nobel Laureate for Medicine in 1962 ,
joint discoverer of the double helix of DNA, and for two years
a member of the US Joint Advisory Committee on Cancer, has
gone on record as saying, " the National Anti-Cancer
Program is a bunch of shit". In our next issue, we'll
be giving readers the revelations in full.
And the worrying thing is that there are innocuous treatments,
whose efficacy is hotly debated by science, that give far better
results than traditional chemotherapy products... but this is
being concealed from patients, some of whom made a point of speaking
out at this congress. During Sunday lunch, the editor of this
journal thanked the speakers for their altruistic cooperation,
and, speaking on behalf of the whole team, asked them to work
together in evaluating the information they each contribute and
to seriously consider a joint collaboration to find the most
effective global treatments. This proposal was willingly accepted.
THE PHYSICAL SCENARIO OF CANCER
It should be pointed out that the need to strengthen our organism
with amino acids, vitamins and micronutrients was outlined more
than four decades ago by Linus Pauling , winner
of two Nobel Prizes, whose research has been continued by Dr. Matthias
Rath, a German.

Dr. Aleksandra Niedzwiecki, a
biochemist, who is Executive Vice-President and Director of Research
at Matthias Rath Inc. in the United States and who
was also Director of Research at the Linus Pauling Institute
of Science and Medicine in Palo Alto (California), discussed
the approach of cellular medicine to cancer. Dr. Niedzwiecki
explained the work of Matthias Rath and Linus Pauling for the
control of cancer and its metastasis by the use of special programmes
for the ingestion of natural substances, such as vitamin C, lysine
and other micronutrients. The data presented by Dr. Niedzwiecki,
obtained both "in vitro" and "in vivo", demonstrate
that the synergy of certain micronutrients constitutes a promising
treatment for the prevention of cancer, since it can influence
the main phases - metastasis, cellular proliferation, apoptosis
and angiogenesis - without toxic secondary effects.
FAREWELL AND CLOSURE
As the congress came to a
close, an overall satisfaction was clearly visible among those
present. Even those who at the beginning had been anxiously
seeking answers to their particular cases left in hope, with
a firm resolve to explore what they had heard in more depth,
in order to choose between the therapeutic solutions proposed.
The speakers, gratified by the level of professional expertise
they encountered and, in many cases, surprised at what they
had heard at the congress, were willing to continue exchanging
information and even introducing the technologies discussed into
their respective working environments and countries (or helping
to do so). The organization, for its part, announced that a book
will be published in September, collating information about the
various therapies presented at the congress and including other
therapies reported on in this journal over the last three years.
As a coda, given the inexplicable absence of the media and the
need to continue widening information channels in order to reach
the public, it was announced that a free health information service - Mednew - would
be set up over the Internet. This is initially intended to reach
a million and a half people and will provide information on those
topics which, like those discussed at this congress, continue
to be concealed from most of the population.

And so the important part of this first congress now begins.
The testimony provided has already gone out all over Spain and
to more than ten other countries. The fruits will be garnered
- slowly, perhaps, but surely. At this time, we can say with
satisfaction that a number of oncologists took out subscriptions
to our journal in the days following the congress . "Give
me but one firm spot on which to stand, and I will move the earth", said Archimedes .
Let us hope this congress will influence oncologists to abandon
the official standpoints that benefit the industry more than
its patients.

The attitude of the media
The absence of the media from the congress and their absolute
silence about what was said there was forecast by the editor
of our journal, José Antonio Campoy ,
in his welcoming speech. Of the major national media - all of
which were invited to attend - only the EFE agency came, and
it was basically interested in Bio-Bac . It is obvious
that this significant absence was not due to chance. One of the
media might fail to turn up, but that all should do so is impossible.
And it's a fact, as was critically
remarked during the presentations and in the opening speech,
that the major media form part of the system that keeps the
cancer business going. Self-censorship? Premeditation? The
end result is the same. By suppressing information about the
congress, they have simply denied millions of Spaniards the
chance to decide for themselves what to do about their illness.
They have set themselves up as "guardians of the truth and
orthodoxy" - "their" truth - instead of being
simply channels of information. Right in the centre of Madrid,
with prestigious researchers from ten countries at their disposal
to tell them about treatments that cure cancer, they opted for
complicit silence. Despite the fact that 100,000 people die in
Spain every year!
But, "as it happens",
the day after the congress, the daily "El País" dedicated two whole
pages to attacking Dr. Matthias Rath for advocating
the ingestion of micronutrients, instead of the use of retroviruses,
as a possible solution to AIDS. And the day before, in "El
Mundo" , the benefits of surgical intervention in cases
of prostate cancer were praised. In other media, chemotherapy
was being extolled as a treatment for cancer, despite its proven
uselessness. There was even talk of novel and promising therapies
that perhaps in future might, who knows, ...
No, those who attended the congress did not understand the absence
of the media. Nor, of course, did we.
